TV unit designs for your living room — elegant ideas, real costs

Ideas we have tested on real TV walls in Bangalore — how each one is made, what it actually costs, and where it is worth the money.

Moulded TV wall

Wall moulding framed around a TV panel — the most cost-efficient way to make a TV wall look elegant. Twelve 10 ft lengths of PVC moulding cost about ₹2,400.

How can you make a TV wall look elegant on a low budget?

Use wall moulding. Frames of moulding on the wall around a single TV panel give a classic, elegant look for a few thousand rupees — far less than panelling the whole wall.

For more elegance, add designer corner moulds with carving in them.

The look is classic, so it suits classic and transitional homes best.

How much does wall moulding cost for a TV wall?

PVC moulding costs about ₹200 per 10 ft length. Even a wall that uses 12 lengths comes to about ₹2,400 in moulding.

The total depends on how many frames the design has.

PVC, MDF or solid wood moulding: which is best for a TV wall?

PVC. Moulding comes in PVC, MDF and solid wood, and PVC is the most cost-effective — it is also easy to maintain and lasts a very long time.

Can wall moulding cover the whole wall?

Yes. Moulding comes in 10 ft lengths, so it can run across an entire wall seamlessly, without visible joins in the middle of a frame.

Do you need a full panel behind the TV?

No. With moulding on the wall you save on a full back panel — but one panel layer behind the TV is still needed to hide the wires.

How do you hide TV wires?

Run the wires through a pipe in the wall behind the TV unit, and cover that area with a panel behind the TV. The pipe carries the wires; the panel hides it.

Wall-mounted or floor-standing TV unit: which is better?

Floor-standing is the safest option, and our preference. If you do mount a TV unit on the wall, make sure it is reinforced — for example with metal brackets.

Statement TV console, simple wall

Put the design effort into the low TV console, not the wall behind it. The console is small, so even a fancy front costs little — and with simple panelling behind, the whole wall looks luxurious.

What makes a TV unit look luxurious?

The TV console. The low media console under the TV is the statement piece — it can make or break the whole design. Look at any premium project: the console has a distinctive front, and the wall behind is kept simple.

Should you spend more on the TV wall or the TV console?

The console. It is sleek and small, so its surface area is small too — a fancy front in a premium finish does not cost much. Keep the wall behind it to simple panelling, which does the job and more.

Don’t be afraid to try something new on the console front. Ask your designer to put their effort into the console and keep the background simple.

How much does a designer TV console cost?

A designer front can start at just ₹5,000–6,000 more than a plain console, and within about ₹20,000 extra it can change the whole look of the room. The exact cost depends on the design.

How do you make a TV console front look designer?

Give the console a special front (fascia). Any of these works — what matters is the design, not the finish:

On a TV console, any finish works — no one finish is “the best”.

  • A CNC-cut front finished in PU.
  • Rafters on the front.
  • A fancy laminate.
  • CNC-cut solid wood.

Floating or legged TV console: which is better?

A console standing on legs is the better and safer option, hands down — for safety and for how long it lasts. A floating (wall-hung) console makes cleaning the floor easier, but adding legs to a console is not a bad idea either.

Brick and stone-look TV wall

Step beyond laminate and plywood: brick panels, PVC bricks, brick inlays or PU stone panels on the TV wall bring warmth and an earthy feel — and look great.

Can you use brick or stone on a TV wall?

Yes. For a brick look, real 12 mm thin bricks laid on the wall are very durable; brick-look PVC panels also exist. For a stone look, PU (polyurethane) stone panels are very affordable. Brick and stone on a TV wall give it warmth and an earthy feel.

How much do brick-look PVC and PU stone panels cost?

PU stone is very affordable — about ₹1,000–1,200 for a 4 × 2 ft panel. Brick-look PVC panels are more expensive, at about ₹12,000–20,000 for an 8 × 4 ft sheet.

Real stone, marble or PU stone behind the TV?

For most homes, PU stone. Real stone can be used too, but marble is a very expensive affair — we would recommend it only for a premium project.

What materials can you use for a TV wall besides laminate?

Brick panels, PVC bricks, brick inlays and PU stone panels all work well. Don’t be scared to use materials beyond laminate, plywood and the usual finishes — the TV wall is the best place to try something new.

How do you know a new material will look right on your TV wall?

Ask your designer for proper 3D renders with the actual material before you decide. Seeing it in your own room is what gives you the confidence to go ahead.

Classic grooved panel TV wall

Straight grooved panels, a line of light between them, a PU stone inlay and curved open shelves — the simplest TV wall that still looks elegant, and one of the most cost-effective.

What is a simple but elegant TV unit design?

Straight wall panels with grooves, lighting between two of the panels, a stone-look panel set into that gap, curved open shelves to one side, and a console below. Easy to make, cost-effective, and it always looks elegant.

The console can be floating or standing on the floor — both work with this design.

How do you add lighting to a TV wall?

Leave a gap between two wall panels and run the lighting inside it. Set a stone-look panel into the gap and the light picks up its texture.

Are open shelves a good idea next to a TV unit?

Yes — they are a very good addition. Curved open shelves with metal rod accents add display space and make the TV wall feel lighter than a wall of closed cabinets.

How much does a stone-look inlay on a TV wall cost?

About ₹2,000 for two PU (polyurethane) stone panels.

Floor-to-ceiling TV wall

A full-height TV wall with tall vertical panels, lit open niches and storage — even behind the TV. It makes the room look taller and more spacious. A premium choice, because anything over 8 ft costs more.

Concept render · Willow Interiors, 2026

Why are floor-to-ceiling TV units more expensive?

Because of the height. Once a TV wall goes above 8 ft, joints are not an option — it has to look seamless. That needs 8–10 ft long HDHMR or base boards and 10 ft long laminates or veneers, where the choices are limited and prices go up sharply.

How much does a floor-to-ceiling TV unit cost?

On average about ₹1,600–2,200 per sq ft. It costs much more than a regular TV wall because it is no longer just a panel — it is storage, from floor to ceiling.

The total depends on the size of the wall, and the per-sq-ft figure rests on many assumptions about the design.

Does a floor-to-ceiling TV unit take up more space?

No. A regular TV console already projects about a foot from the wall. A floor-to-ceiling unit uses that same depth all the way up — so you gain storage without losing floor space.

Do you need a TV console under the TV?

Not necessarily. With a floor-to-ceiling TV wall you can skip the console altogether. If you still want one, a niche can be built into the same panel and used as the console.

The console space can also be whatever you need — a fireplace, a small console, or a solid console just for displaying artefacts rather than storage.

What is a good TV unit design with storage?

A floor-to-ceiling TV wall. Its vertical boxes and divisions give a lot of storage — including behind the TV — while the open shelves add lighting and a luxurious feel.

How can a TV wall make a living room look bigger?

Take it from floor to ceiling and use vertical divisions. Tall vertical lines add to the height of the whole space and make the room feel more spacious.

How can you make a TV wall look premium on a budget?

Spend on one feature, not the whole wall. Wall moulding, a stone-look inlay or a designer console each costs from a couple of thousand rupees — only a full floor-to-ceiling unit is a premium spend.

IdeaCost
PU stone panel₹1,000–1,200 per 4 × 2 ft panel
