Bed back wall designs — headboard wall ideas, real costs

Ideas we have tested on real bedroom walls in Bangalore — how each one is made, what it actually costs, and where it is worth the money.

PVC moulding on the wall

Frames of PVC moulding with carved corner pieces, painted in a well-chosen shade, with a large painting and pendant lights. Royal, elegant and low-maintenance — for about ₹15,000–20,000.

What is the cheapest way to make a bedroom wall look elegant?

PVC wall moulding. Fix frames of moulding on the wall, add carved corner pieces, and paint the wall in a very nice shade. It looks royal, elegant, neat and clean — and it is low-maintenance.

To complete the look, add a large painting, nice side tables and pendant (drop) lights.

How much does wall moulding behind a bed cost?

About ₹15,000–20,000 for a bed wall, including the corner pieces and installation. It depends on the length and size of the frames.

Carved corner pieces cost about ₹800–1,000 each depending on the material, and they can also be custom-made.

Does wall moulding work in a small bedroom?

Yes. It works in small and large bedrooms, in apartments and villas — for ₹8 lakh interiors and ₹80 lakh interiors alike. It is a hack that works for everyone.

What matters most with a moulded bed wall?

The paint colour. The moulding is simple; the shade you paint the wall is what makes or breaks the look — choose it very carefully.

Abstract wallpaper

A large abstract or custom-printed wallpaper behind the bed. It gives the whole room a premium look, works even in apartment bedrooms, and a good one lasts 8–10 years.

Is wallpaper a good idea behind the bed?

Yes — a good-quality, thick wallpaper is an excellent way to lift the whole room. We recommend it especially in homes without small children.

Wallpaper today goes far beyond the textured or small-print designs in ready-made catalogues — there are many new options, including custom-printed wallpaper.

How long does wallpaper last in India?

A good wallpaper easily lasts 8–10 years — as long as the wall has no seepage.

How much does wallpaper cost for a bedroom wall?

A good-quality wallpaper for a 10 × 10 ft wall costs about ₹10,000–15,000. Wallpaper is priced per roll, and one roll covers about 50 sq ft.

Rolls start at about ₹2,500. Abstract and custom designs cost more — around ₹6,000–8,000 a roll — but they are worth it.

Can you use abstract wallpaper in a small bedroom?

Yes — don’t fear abstract designs. They are not just for villas and bungalows; they work in apartment bedrooms too. An abstract wall is a little heavy, so balance it with pastel furniture, wooden tones and softer, curved furniture.

Full panel with a curved cutout

Panel the whole bed wall and cut a large curved shape into it — then fill it with wallpaper, carving, paint or 3D POP, and light it. A design that never goes wrong.

What bed back wall design can never go wrong?

Full panelling on the bed wall with one large curved cutout. It is simple to make — even a carpenter cannot go wrong with it — it is easy to light, and it always looks good.

Choose a curved cutout — a circle, a U or an inverted U — rather than a square or rectangle. The panel itself can also be segmented, as in the render.

What can go inside a cutout in the bed wall?

Wallpaper, carving, painting or 3D POP work — and in a kids’ bedroom it can even frame a photo of the child. Add lighting around it; lighting enhances the whole look.

How much does a full panelled bed wall cost?

About ₹30,000–50,000 for the whole wall, depending on the material and the design. It costs more than a partial panel because it covers the entire wall, floor to ceiling.

How is a floor-to-ceiling bed wall panel made?

There are three ways: with 10 ft boards, so there are no joints; in POP, painted afterwards; or built by hand on site and finished in veneer — then you don’t need extra-long boards at all.

Veneer adds depth and softness to the wall.

Bed back panel with wallpaper above

A single panel covering the lower 35–40% of the wall, with wallpaper, paint or stone above. The simplest design to make, the easiest to light — and it always works.

How high should a bed back panel be?

About 35–40% of the wall height, as one continuous panel behind the bed. Above it, the wall can be painted, wallpapered or finished in PU stone.

What material is best for a bed back panel?

Many work — rafters, laminate, veneer, a carved design with PU finish, charcoal boards or decor panels. Ideally keep it as simple as possible, so it looks elegant.

Any POP work in the room should stay light and complement the panel — heavy POP fights with a simple design like this.

How do you add lighting behind the bed?

A bed back panel is the easiest design to light — the lighting runs along the top edge of the panel. Add a table lamp on each side table and you are done.

How much does a bed back panel cost?

About ₹18,000–25,000 in laminate, veneer or rafters. Other materials can cost more.

Single panel with wooden strips

Instead of panelling the whole wall, use one 8 × 4 or 10 × 4 ft panel — plain, painted or a subtle printed laminate — framed with polished wooden strips. Less material, easy to install and easy to maintain.

Can you panel just part of the bed wall?

Yes. Use a single 8 × 4 or 10 × 4 ft panel in one section of the wall, and frame the wall with a few polished strips of teak or rubber wood. You use less material, and it looks just as designed.

The panel can be plain, painted, or a printed (digital) laminate — choose a print that is easy on the eyes, not one that covers the whole panel.

Is a partial bed wall panel easy to install and maintain?

Yes. If you are not adding lighting, the strips can be fixed straight onto the wall. The rest of the wall stays painted, which is easy to maintain.

How much does a bed wall with a single panel cost?

From about ₹25,000–30,000 on a budget. It can go up to a few lakhs depending on the materials, any changes to the design, and the method of execution.
